Sadie’s Birthday

Yes, I am posting about my dog.  A full post dedicated to her.
Yesterday was her first birthday.  I was looking through pictures of her through the last 6 months that we’ve had her.  And it so incredibly hard to believe she is the same stressed out, scared little dog we brought home.
As cheesy as it may sound, she is a huge accomplishment of mine.
She went from hiding in our closet, to running circles around our living room.
Throwing food at her to get her to eat, to eating it right out of my hands.
Running from me when I’d go to pick her up to crawling up in my lap every second she gets.
Not wanting anything to do with Craig, to pouncing on him when she sees him stirring in the bed in the mornings.
Scared to do anything a normal puppy would do, to tearing into the toilet paper roll and reeping the consequences of a scolding every now and then.
She realized her world wouldn’t end because she played with a ball or a toy that we got her.  That it was ok to play tug of war with her rope.
She went from ducking when we went to pet her, to scooting her snout up under my hand for me to pet her.
She’s taught Craig and I patience.
The first night we got her, I was ready to give up on her.
I thought about what a mistake we had made.
And I’ve never been more happy to be wrong.
And I realize that to most people she is “just a dog”.
But she’s given me her trust.  I earned it and she gave it to me.
And it’s a pretty incredible feeling to know that I helped give her a second chance.

This was the first night we brought her home.  She wanted nothing to do with me, and would barely look me in the eye.

This is her now.  She barely sat still long enough for me to take this picture before wanting to crawl up in my lap.

Happy Birthday Sadie!! You think she’s ready to meet Peanut yet or will that set her back to the beginning? Love, Mom
